Centred on the Fo Tan industrial area beside Tolo Highway, convenient for the eastern New Territories. 21 workshops here declare engine oil changing, spread around Sha Tin, Tai Wai, Fo Tan, Ma On Shan, Shek Mun.
An oil change is the single maintenance job with the largest effect on engine life. Oil lubricates, cools, cleans and protects against corrosion, and once it degrades internal wear climbs quickly.
Hong Kong driving is dominated by short, low-speed trips, so oil rarely reaches the temperature that burns off contaminants. Changing somewhat earlier than the manufacturer's interval is sensible: roughly 8,000-10,000 km for fully synthetic, 5,000-7,000 km for semi-synthetic.
Transport Department records list 21 registered workshops in Sha Tin declaring engine oil changing, 20 of them with a published phone number.
Yes. Debris held in the old filter will contaminate fresh oil immediately, undoing much of the benefit, and the filter itself is inexpensive.
Follow the viscosity and specification in the owner's manual. Fully synthetic holds up better at high temperature and lasts longer between changes, which suits turbocharged engines and longer journeys; mineral and semi-synthetic cost less and suit older naturally aspirated engines with low annual mileage.
