The high-voltage systems in electric and hybrid vehicles typically run above 200V and carry a real risk of electric shock, so they must be handled by staff holding the relevant qualification. The Transport Department's registration scheme grades this as EVE (basic), EVL (low voltage) and EVH (high voltage).
Workshops listed here have declared they can work on high-voltage components — traction batteries, drive motors, inverters and HV wiring. Routine work such as tyres, brakes, air-conditioning and suspension can be done by most registered workshops.
Anything touching the high-voltage system — traction battery, drive motor, inverter, HV wiring — must go to a workshop qualified for high-voltage work. Tyres, brakes, suspension, air-conditioning and bodywork can be handled by most registered workshops.
Usually. There is no engine oil, no spark plugs, no belts and no exhaust, and regenerative braking reduces brake wear. Tyres wear faster because the cars are heavier, and replacing a traction battery is expensive.
