What do the workshop classes mean?
Hong Kong registers workshops in four classes. Class 1 is a franchised bus operator or vehicle agent facility; class 2 needs at least five mechanics and five bays; class 3 needs at least one registered mechanic and one bay; class 4 sits in a residential or mixed-use building. Class reflects size and facilities, not service quality.
How do I know a workshop is legitimate?
Every workshop here is on the Transport Department register, and each page shows the registration number and expiry date. Records whose registration has lapsed are marked and ranked last. Ask for a written quote before work starts.
Where can I get an electric car serviced?
Work on high-voltage systems needs a specific qualification. Filter by the EV and hybrid service to see only workshops that have declared it; routine work can go to most registered workshops.
What is vehicle inspection and licence renewal?
Private cars over six years old must pass an examination before each licence renewal. Some workshops are equipped to carry this out — filter by vehicle inspection to find them.
About this directory
Kinkee Car Directory lists every vehicle maintenance workshop on the Hong Kong Transport Department's public register — 1,550 workshops across Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories. The data comes straight from the government's open data release and is re-synced regularly; every workshop page shows the date its record was last synced.
You can filter by district, workshop class, vehicle type and service, or use your location to sort by distance. Each record carries the registration number, address in English and Chinese, phone number, opening hours where the government publishes them, the vehicle types the workshop takes and the services it has declared.
Two things are worth knowing about the source data. Registration is voluntary and reflects a workshop's size, equipment and declared scope rather than its service quality. And the register contains some records whose registration has already expired — those are marked and ranked last here rather than presented as current.
