Find a workshop by vehicle type

Not every workshop takes every vehicle. Goods vehicles, taxis, light buses and motorcycles each need different equipment and skills, so starting from the vehicle saves ringing round.

How are these types defined?

These come from the Transport Department register, where each workshop declares which vehicle types it services. A workshop can declare several — private cars and light goods vehicles, for instance.

Goods vehicles are split by permitted gross weight: light up to 5.5 tonnes, medium 5.5 to 24 tonnes, heavy above 24. The heavier the vehicle, the larger the lifting equipment and bay needed, so fewer workshops qualify and those that do cluster in the New Territories and industrial areas.
