    Servicing taxis in Hong Kong

    Almost all Hong Kong taxis run on LPG, which changes the servicing picture: spark plugs wear faster, the oil has to suit LPG combustion, and the fuel system and cylinder need periodic attention.

    Taxis run around the clock and cover very high mileage, so intervals must be set by distance, not months. A shift off the road is a shift of lost income, which usually makes same-day turnaround the deciding factor when choosing a workshop.

    Servicing taxis: common questions

    How does taxi servicing differ from a private car?

    Hong Kong taxis mostly run on LPG, which burns hotter and wears spark plugs and valve seats faster, so plugs need changing more often with oil suited to LPG. The LPG system and its cylinder inspection dates also need tracking.

    How often should a taxi be serviced?

    By distance, not by month. A taxi covers in a few weeks what a private car covers in months, so agree a fixed mileage interval with the workshop and stick to it.
